Global agrotech company, Syngenta Group, today announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to its digital farming platform Cropwise. This generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) system aims to transform how agronomic advisors and farmers make critical decisions about crop management, optimizing yields and ensuring more sustainable farming practices.
Revolutionizing Crop Management with AI
At the heart of Cropwise AI is a combination of machine learning algorithms, advanced data analytics, and “over two decades of agronomic expertise.” The system empowers growers by providing them with deep insights into crop growth and tailored recommendations, designed to enhance decision-making and drive profitability. Through this GenAI solution, Syngenta aims to help farmers not only increase yields but also reduce waste and improve resource efficiency.
According to the company, the new AI tool draws from the extensive library of Agronomic Models within the Cropwise Insight Engine, which “includes over 20 years of weather history, detailed soil conditions, and more than 80,000 observations on crop growth stages. Syngenta’s deep repository of historical yield data from research and on-farm trials is also integrated into the system. This wealth of information is then processed by Cropwise AI’s machine learning models to provide farmers with actionable insights for precise crop management.”
Key Features and Benefits
Cropwise AI offers several features to assist modern agriculture:
- Seeds Recommendation and Placement: By analyzing site-specific conditions and utilizing predictive algorithms, Cropwise AI delivers tailored recommendations for seed varieties and optimal placement, helping to boost yields by up to 5%.
- Predictive Modeling: Using real-time and historical data, the AI can forecast crop growth stages, predict yield outcomes, and assess potential risk factors, allowing farmers to plan more effectively.
- Precision Agriculture: The system provides precise input application recommendations, reducing waste and maximizing resource efficiency, which is crucial for sustainable farming.
“Cropwise AI represents a significant milestone in our digital transformation journey. By combining our deep agronomic knowledge with cutting-edge AI capabilities, we are bringing the power of GenAI to agriculture and empowering growers to make data-driven decisions.”
A Multilingual System for Global Agriculture
Cropwise AI’s another added feature is its multi-lingual conversational large language model (LLM), which simplifies complex agronomic advice into easy-to-understand natural language. This allows farmers, regardless of language barriers, to access Syngenta’s wealth of agronomic expertise and receive tailored recommendations on input applications, product placement, and strategies for pest and disease control.

The integration of Cropwise AI into Syngenta’s GHX 2.0 app earlier this year further enhanced the capabilities available to farmers. Through this app, users can ask questions about products or agronomic challenges and receive instant, accurate answers. The AI has the ability to diagnose and provide solutions for high-impact diseases like the Tar Spot.
Looking to the Future: Expansion and Innovation
Syngenta’s ambitions for Cropwise AI extend far beyond its current features. The company plans to incorporate advanced computer vision and image recognition technologies into future versions, enabling the system to detect and identify pests and diseases with precision. Additionally, upcoming updates will include sustainability analytics, which will help farmers reduce their carbon footprints by offering recommendations for environmentally friendly practices.
“Cropwise AI is an industry-leading example of how GenAI can address critical agricultural issues. Syngenta has revolutionized decision support, giving farmers easy access to expert advice. We’re excited to partner with them to boost yields and optimize productivity across the agri-food system.”
Global Rollout and Availability
Currently, Cropwise AI is available to selected customers in the United States and Brazil. Syngenta has plans to expand its availability to European markets soon, as it continues to develop and refine the system based on user feedback and further technological advancements.
