In a move to boost sustainable aquaculture practices, the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Kolkata, and Bengal-Jharkhand Development Cooperative Ltd. (BENJHARC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration is focused on enhancing fish and shrimp production in rural areas, empowering local communities by connecting research-based solutions with practical implementation on the ground.

The MoU was formalized by Dr. Pradip Dey, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, and Subhoday Pandit, Chairman of BENJHARC. The agreement focuses on the dissemination of advanced aquaculture technologies to improve productivity, promote ecological balance, and boost the economic prospects of rural fish farmers.
During the signing ceremony, Dr. Pradip Dey, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “This MoU opens a new chapter for rural development through the application of advanced aquaculture technologies. By empowering communities with knowledge and practical tools, we aim to create self-reliant and sustainable livelihoods in rural areas.”
