India, Sri Lanka Collaborate to Strengthen Agrotech in Northern and Central Provinces

India and Sri Lanka Strengthening Agrotech Ties

In a step towards fostering agricultural innovation and productivi in Sri Lanka, the High Commission of India, in collaboration with the Assistant High Commission of India (AHC), Kandy, and the Consulate General of India (CGI), Jaffna, organized a series of live demonstrations showcasing advanced agricultural machinery from RoWeR, a leading brand under Mechcreatio Industrial Solutions Ltd., India.

The initiative, part of India’s ongoing support to Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector, aligns with Sri Lanka’s broader goals to modernize and revitalize agriculture, particularly in the Northern and Central Provinces. Demonstrations were strategically conducted across key agricultural hubs, including Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Badulla, in partnership with the Regional Economic Development Agency (REDA) – Central Province, the Department of Agriculture, the Lions Club, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and other local organizations.

In Jaffna, the CGI extended this outreach to the Agriculture Faculty at the University of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and the office of the Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture on Palaly Road. These events drew a dynamic audience comprising over 50 agricultural students and faculty members, more than 200 local farmers, field officers, and representatives from the Department of Agriculture.

Cutting-Edge Solutions for Local Challenges

RoWeR’s advanced agricultural machinery, including state-of-the-art seeders and planting tools, was at the heart of these demonstrations. The equipment, designed for efficiency and precision, addresses the challenges faced by farmers in Sri Lanka, such as resource optimization and the need for sustainable farming practices.

Participants received hands-on training, enabling them to familiarize themselves with the operation and benefits of these machines. Farmers and agricultural professionals expressed optimism about the potential of such technology to boost yields, reduce labor costs, and promote environmentally friendly farming practices.

The initiative underscores the growing collaboration between India and Sri Lanka in the agrotech sector. It is not just about technology transfer but also fostering knowledge exchange. Indian experts provided insights into modern farming techniques, emphasizing the importance of adopting innovations tailored to local conditions.
