New Zealand’s agricultural sector is set to receive a fresh injection of innovation with the launch of a new agrotech startup accelerator. Agnition Ventures, a leading force in fostering agro-innovation, has joined hands with Singapore-based AgriFood Futures to create a platform that brings global agrotech solutions directly to Kiwi farmers.

A Gateway for Global Agrotech in New Zealand

The new accelerator aims to bridge the gap between international agrotech startups and New Zealand’s thriving agricultural industry. By providing funding, mentorship, and market access, Agnition Ventures and AgriFood Futures hope to fast-track innovations that can enhance productivity, sustainability, and efficiency in farming practices across the country.

Jasper van Halder, Agnition CEO, said, “We’ve built a community of farmers nationwide who are tech-savvy and hungry for innovative ways to increase efficiency on-farm. The difficulty has been spotting emerging technologies in Europe and Asia that will make a real difference here. Agrifood Futures have extensive overseas networks, so this partnership means we can get in early to offer New Zealand as a great proving ground.”

Joshua Soo, Agrifood Futures Co-founder and Director further, further emphasized, “We believe entrepreneurship and innovation can drive significant progress for the agricultural sector worldwide, and New Zealand farmers are known for their ready adoption of more efficient practices. This partnership with Agnition enables us to better connect innovation throughout the Asia-Pacific region and directly boost farmer tech adoption.”

What the Accelerator Offers

The program is set to provide startups with a comprehensive support system, including access to experienced mentors, networking opportunities, and direct connections with local farmers and agrobusinesses. The initiative will also focus on areas such as precision farming, regenerative agriculture, alternative proteins, and supply chain efficiency.

Why New Zealand?

New Zealand has long been an agricultural powerhouse, with its dairy, horticulture, and livestock industries driving a significant portion of the economy. However, with rising environmental concerns and the need for more efficient farming methods, the country is actively seeking advanced technological interventions.

The accelerator will allow international agrotech startups to validate their solutions in New Zealand’s unique farming environment while ensuring that local farmers benefit from the latest advancements in agricultural technology.

Looking Ahead

The partnership between Agnition Ventures and AgriFood Futures is expected to foster a new wave of agrotech entrepreneurship, equipping Kiwi farmers with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly complex agricultural landscape.

Applications for the accelerator program are set to open soon, with the first cohort expected to begin early next year. As global agrotech innovation meets New Zealand’s farming expertise, the country could be on the verge of a transformative shift in how it approaches agriculture in the future.
