LuLu Group, a multinational conglomerate, has initiated its first large-scale agricultural venture in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, in India, through contract farming. This project spans 50 acres in its initial phase and aims to integrate local farmers into the global supply chain while promoting sustainable farming practices. Expanding beyond retail, the company has now ventured into agriculture to strengthen its supply chain and support local farmers.

Headquartered in Edapally, Kochi, LuLu Group India is founded in 2000 by M. A. Yusuffali. The company has a strong presence in retail, hospitality, real estate, and trading, with a well-established hypermarket chain across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.

LuLu’s Commitment to Sustainable & High-Quality Agricultural Practices

The Pollachi initiative is part of the company’s broader vision to enhance food security and agricultural sustainability. The company has introduced modern farming techniques and resources to help local farmers improve crop yields and meet international quality standards. The project primarily cultivates bananas, coconuts, drumsticks, onions, and snake gourds, ensuring they adhere to the highest global quality benchmarks. These products will be exported to LuLu hypermarkets worldwide, providing customers with fresh and organic produce.

The company is also implementing organic farming methods by using natural fertilizers to maintain soil fertility. As part of the initiative, the seed planting activity was carried out on 160 acres at Ganapathi Palayam, with the first phase covering 50 acres.

Inauguration and Introduction of Integrated Farming Practices

Salim M.A., Director of Global Operations at LuLu Group, inaugurated the project by planting saplings, symbolizing the company’s commitment to agricultural development. In addition to crop cultivation, LuLu has also introduced fish farming into the project. A total of 5,000 fish fingerlings were released into the water, promoting integrated aquaculture practices that complement sustainable farming efforts.
