The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has called upon state governments to actively integrate their investment-related schemes with the Krishi Nivesh portal, a digital platform designed to consolidate and streamline access to agricultural investment opportunities. The portal was conceptualised as a comprehensive, interoperable solution to bring together central and state government schemes under a unified interface, with the objective of boosting agribusinesses, attracting private investment, and improving farmers’ income.

Current Status and Expansion Plans

The Krishi Nivesh portal currently hosts schemes from seven central ministries , Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Food Processing Industries, Rural Development, New and Renewable Energy, Jal Shakti, Chemicals and Fertilisers, and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. The plan is to expand its scope further by including ministries such as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Cooperation, Panchayati Raj, Commerce, and the Department for Development of North Eastern Regions. However, the involvement of state governments remains pending, and the Ministry has formally urged their participation to ensure holistic integration.

Formal Request to State Governments

In an official communication, Sunil Kumar, Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Agriculture, has requested all states and relevant ministries to identify and list schemes, programmes, and interventions that are currently being implemented by their respective departments to promote investment in agriculture and allied activities. The letter underscores the importance of sharing this data on priority for onboarding onto the Krishi Nivesh portal. The Ministry has highlighted that timely data sharing and regular updating of scheme-related information are key operational features for the platform’s effectiveness.

Portal Features and Functionalities

The Krishi Nivesh portal is positioned as a one-stop digital interface for stakeholders seeking information and access to government schemes in the agriculture sector. Built on open-source and open-standard frameworks, the platform supports interoperability and is powered by Business Intelligence, analytics, and artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. The digital system enables users to explore a wide range of government-backed investment opportunities categorised by geography and sector, and helps stakeholders, including investors, farmers, and agri startups, understand which schemes offer subsidies and other support mechanisms.

Application Tracking and Digital Submissions

Users can track the progress of their applications, receive guidance from designated authorities, and also digitally submit Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) through the portal. According to the Ministry’s official note, the platform has been designed to simplify and bring transparency to the investment process while making it easier for users to identify schemes that are best suited to their needs.

Driving Agricultural Investment and Modernisation

Officials from the Ministry have emphasised that bringing all investment-related initiatives under one digital roof will not only enhance ease of access but also strengthen the agricultural ecosystem by encouraging increased private sector participation. They stated that improved investment in agriculture is crucial for raising productivity levels, developing rural infrastructure, strengthening value chains, and ensuring long-term sustainability in the sector.

The Krishi Nivesh portal is also seen as part of the broader strategy to modernise Indian agriculture through the integration of technological tools and digital platforms. With the full on boarding of state governments and additional ministries, the Krishi Nivesh Portal is expected to serve as a centralised mechanism to facilitate coordinated, transparent, and efficient agricultural investments across the country.
