AGCO and CNFA Collaborate to Strengthen Youth Driven Agri Food System Solutions

In a strategic move to support sustainable agri food systems and address food insecurity through youth engagement, the AGCO Agriculture Foundation has announced a multi year partnership with Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA). The Foundation, a private entity focused on preventing and relieving hunger through sustainable agricultural development, has awarded CNFA a grant of US$ 450K. This grant will be disbursed over a period of three years to support a new initiative, the AGCO Foundation Youth AgriChampion Program.

The program is designed to identify, train, and fund 30 young farmers and agri food entrepreneurs across the United States who are actively working to innovate within the agricultural sector. Targeting individuals aged 18 to 40, the program will focus on those who have shown interest or demonstrated success in areas such as digital agriculture, climate resilience, and sustainable food system innovations.

Program Structure and Implementation Timeline

Over the course of the three year period, the Youth AgriChampion Program will be implemented in three separate annual cohorts, each comprising 10 participants. These individuals, referred to as AgriChampions, will be selected through a competitive process based on their track record and potential to drive community level impact through agriculture.

Each cohort of AgriChampions will receive access to a dedicated grant pool of US$ 45,000, enabling them to launch or expand initiatives aimed at creating sustainable agri food solutions. These initiatives may vary in scope but are expected to contribute to improved agricultural practices, increased food access, and enhanced community resilience.

In addition to financial support, the program offers a structured six month leadership development component. During this period, AgriChampions will undergo comprehensive technical training and receive tailored mentorship. The leadership program aims to equip participants with the practical knowledge, strategic insights, and operational skills required to scale their innovations or enterprises effectively.

Capacity Building, Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange

Beyond individual training and funding, the program seeks to foster collaboration among AgriChampions. By creating a shared platform for knowledge exchange and peer learning, the initiative encourages participants to engage in dialogue, form partnerships, and learn from each other’s experiences. This collaborative element is positioned as a critical pillar of the program, ensuring that youth led innovations are not developed in isolation but instead benefit from a diverse set of perspectives and shared challenges.

The program will also include regular touchpoints where AgriChampions will report on the progress of their innovations. These updates will serve as both a monitoring tool and a medium for broader learning, helping the Foundation and CNFA assess the effectiveness of the support mechanisms while also documenting best practices for future replication.

Institutional Perspectives on Youth Engagement and Agricultural Innovation

Louisa Parker-Smith, Vice President of Global Corporate Sustainability at AGCO Corporation, emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to equipping young agricultural innovators with the tools to contribute meaningfully to food systems. She noted that the initiative aligns with the Foundation’s broader purpose to sustainably feed the world by supporting young people in turning their innovative ideas and community driven solutions into reality.

“In alignment with our purpose to sustainably feed the world, the Foundation also recognizes the need to empower and support young farmers and agri entrepreneurs in bringing their innovative ideas, talents and impact driven solutions to life, thereby contributing to sustainable agri food systems.”

Broader Implications for Sustainable Agri Food Systems

By providing targeted support to youth led agricultural ventures, the AGCO Agriculture Foundation and CNFA are investing in a generation that holds the potential to reimagine the US food system. The Youth AgriChampion Program aims not only to cultivate entrepreneurial talent but also to serve as a model for how multi stakeholder collaboration can yield practical solutions for sustainable agriculture.

Through mentorship, training, financial assistance, and peer collaboration, the program creates an enabling environment for young innovators to develop and implement agri food system solutions that are both impactful and sustainable. The broader goal of the initiative is to strengthen local food systems, enhance climate resilience, and improve access to food, thereby contributing to the long term vision of hunger prevention through sustainable development.
