CSJMU Partners with ClimAgro Analytics to Advance Climate Smart Agriculture

Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, has entered into a strategic partnership with ClimAgro Analytics, formalized on August 27, 2025. The initiative, led under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak, is directed toward strengthening research and innovation in climate smart agriculture while building institutional capacity to address challenges of sustainability, environment and food security.

Formalization of the Partnership

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) represents a concerted effort to foster research collaboration and knowledge exchange between academia and industry. The partnership aims to enhance climate smart research, support student capacity building, and integrate advanced technologies into agricultural practices. By combining academic expertise with ClimAgro’s industry knowledge, both institutions are positioned to work on practical and scalable solutions for climate resilience.

The university emphasized that this step would open pathways for students and researchers to access real world tools and data, enabling them to gain hands on exposure to climate and agricultural analytics. The collaboration also signals an expansion of CSJMU’s role in contributing to sustainable development goals through evidence based research and innovation.

Role of ClimAgro Analytics

ClimAgro Analytics, founded by Dr Harshit Mishra, has established its presence in the field of climate and agricultural technology with a focus on minimizing weather induced yield losses and reducing input costs for farmers. Its operations are based on the use of AI empowered decision making tools that can assist farmers and researchers throughout crop cycles.

The company has recently introduced a Climate Data Portal, a resource offering science backed climate insights that can be used for both academic research and practical agricultural decision making. Through this portal, ClimAgro provides access to climate datasets designed to support research on agriculture, renewable energy, and environmental planning.

Dr Harshit Mishra, Founder of ClimAgro Analytics presented ClimAgro’s vision for AI powered, research driven models designed to assess climate risks across agriculture and allied sectors.

“This collaboration reflects the university’s strong commitment to empowering students, faculty, and researchers with access to 70+ years of historical climate data to be used for research on food security, renewable energy planning, urban resilience and sustainability.”

University’s Commitment and Academic Involvement

Alongside the Vice Chancellor, Dr Shilpa D Kaistha, Dean Innovation at CSJMU, attended the signing ceremony. The occasion highlighted the university’s commitment to providing its students and faculty with access to advanced tools and frameworks for evidence based research. The university reiterated that the partnership would focus not only on strengthening academic learning but also on ensuring that research outcomes can be translated into actionable insights for farmers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.

Opportunities for Students and Researchers

As part of this collaboration, students at CSJMU will be introduced to industry standard analytics, data sets, and decision making tools, enriching their academic journey and enhancing their prospects in emerging career paths within climate research and sustainable agriculture. Researchers and faculty members will benefit from access to large scale datasets and collaborative opportunities that can broaden the scope of projects undertaken at the university.

This access to over seven decades of historical climate data, combined with ClimAgro’s analytical models, is expected to enable a more detailed understanding of long term patterns in agriculture, renewable energy planning, and resilience strategies for urban ecosystems. The initiative will therefore not only serve the student community but also create a knowledge base for real world agricultural and environmental solutions.

Broader Impact and Strategic Outcomes

The partnership is designed to generate mutual benefits for both institutions. CSJMU will strengthen its role as a hub for climate-smart agricultural research, while ClimAgro Analytics will deepen its connections with academic talent and research collaborations. Together, the university and ClimAgro aim to empower stakeholders with data driven insights to anticipate agricultural challenges, optimize resources, and build long term resilience against climate risks.

The collaboration also reflects broader trends in integrating artificial intelligence and climate data into academic curricula and applied research. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, this initiative stands to deliver benefits to students, researchers, and the farming community alike.

Looking Ahead

The formal announcement marks an important step for CSJMU and ClimAgro Analytics as they work together on advancing climate smart research and sustainable agricultural practices. Both institutions reiterated their intention to continue building on this foundation to create a collaborative ecosystem where data driven approaches can be applied to real world agricultural challenges.

The partnership will remain focused on delivering actionable solutions that contribute to food security, renewable energy planning, and urban sustainability, thereby aligning local initiatives with global priorities in sustainability and climate adaptation.
