Godrej Agrovet Signs $108M MoU with Food Processing Ministry

Godrej Group’s agribusiness division, Godrej Agrovet has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India at World Food India 2025, a key event for the food processing sector. The $108 million (INR 960 crore) proposed investment could strengthen Godrej’s food processing capabilities through high tech manufacturing facilities and an advanced Research and Development (R&D) center.

Godrej Agrovet plans to set up new manufacturing and processing facilities, along with an R&D center, across Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Telangana, and Maharashtra. These projects are expected to be completed FY 2026-27, aiming to support regional development through employment generation and skill enhancement initiatives. The MoU signing was attended by Avinash Joshi, IAS, Secretary of MoFPI, and Rakesh Swami, Group President Corporate Affairs, Godrej Industries Group.

Godrej to Expand Oil Palm Operations

The investment will support company’s Agrovet’s Oil Palm and Pet Food businesses, enabling the company to enhance its agrifood processing, distribution, and supply chain capabilities, in line with its long term strategy. In past, the company worked extensively with Indian farmers to establish large scale oil palm plantations, helping narrow the country’s edible oil demand supply gap.

The company operates across several segments in India, such as animal feed, crop protection, oil palm, dairy, poultry, and processed foods. According to Godrej, the company reportedly sells over one million tons of premium quality animal feed annually.

Godrej Agrovet operates through its subsidiary Astec Lifesciences to provide agrochemical solutions across the entire crop lifecycle through its distribution network. The company also has a joint venture with Bangladesh’s ACI Group to serve the animal feed market in that region, reflecting its international presence.

Scaling Market Presence and Solutions

In March 2025, the company acquired 48.06% stake in Hyderabad-based Creamline Dairy Products for $104.8 million (INR 930 crore). The acquisition will strengthen Godrej Agrovet’s presence in the dairy sector, complementing its efforts to expand agrifood processing, distribution, and supply chain capabilities across India. The company recently unveiled Ashitaka, a new herbicide developed in collaboration with ISK Japan. This solution is designed to control grasses and broad leaved weeds in maize crops, offering farmers an effective tool to improve crop yields.

According to Godrej, the company engaged 2,270 farmers, equipping them with practices that foster resilience, resource efficiency, and sustainable livelihoods. Its integrated watershed development projects in Nashik and Eluru focus on groundwater recharge and efficient water management practices. Godrej Agrovet has claimed that it achieved a water positive status by sequestering approximately 37 million cubic meters of water through these projects.

The company has also installed solar energy systems at over 20 manufacturing plants, contributing to its renewable energy usage. Additionally, the firm has also initiated carbon sequestration projects, including afforestation and reforestation efforts, to offset emissions. These initiatives are part of its broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.
