Tanzanian agritech startup, MazaoHub, has raised US$ 2 million in an oversubscribed seed round to scale its hybrid agronomy model, which integrates soil sensors, portable soil kits, and AI powered farm management software with in field agronomists and direct market access. The financing includes US$ 1.5 million in equity led by Catalyst Fund with participation from Nordic Impact Fund, Mercy Corps Ventures, elea Foundation, Impacc, and DOB Equity. An additional US$ 500,000 in non dilutive capital came from the Livelihood Impact Fund, highlighting growing investor interest in blended finance for climate adaptation.

Hybrid tech and touch model for farmers

The company operates a hybrid “Tech & Touch” model that integrates soil sensors, portable soil kits, and AI powered farm management software with in field agronomists and direct market access. Its offline platform offers farmers crop dashboards, cost analysis tools, and daily checklists designed for low connectivity environments. Rural agribusinesses are upgraded into Farmer Excellence Centers, described as agricultural clinics, where professional agronomists provide in person advice based on digital insights.

At harvest, MazaoHub’s marketplace, CropSupply, connects farmers directly with buyers, ensuring traceability from soil data to shipment and addressing one of agriculture’s most persistent challenges: supply chain transparency.

Turning data into execution

The system translates diagnostics into actionable results. Sensors provide data, AI software generates insights, agronomists implement them in the field, Farmer Excellence Centers institutionalize record keeping, and CropSupply links verified production to buyers. This closed loop builds accountability across the value chain. The financing structure, combining equity with non dilutive capital, is designed to reinforce resilience and capital efficiency in regions where connectivity and last mile service are critical.

Climate and productivity benefits

MazaoHub’s model aims to enhance both farm output and environmental outcomes. By cutting fertilizer use by up to 30%, increasing adoption of organic manure fivefold, and optimizing irrigation, farmers are able to produce more food with fewer inputs. The approach lowers emissions, reduces water use, and decreases energy consumption, aligning with climate adaptation goals.

“Farmers become data driven decision makers, buyers gain trusted traceability, and agribusinesses operate as climate smart franchises. This is where sustainability meets scale.”

Finance integrated with agronomy

The seed round also extends into financial inclusion. CRDB Bank Foundation has joined MazaoHub’s ecosystem to embed inclusive finance. By linking credit to verified farm data and traceable volumes, the platform reduces lending risks and aligns incentives for farmers, buyers, and lenders. This integration speeds adoption while building market trust.

The model ties financial products to soil intelligence and sourcing systems, ensuring that gains in productivity translate into better access to credit and improved livelihoods. Verified data shortens due diligence for buyers, mitigates default risks for lenders, and provides farmers with a structured pathway to higher yields at lower input intensity.

Scaling with new capital

The fresh investment will be directed toward producing low cost soil kits and sensors, expanding the Farmer Excellence Center network, and financing the rollout of CropSupply, which entered pilot earlier this year. Each farming season strengthens the system: verified practices generate richer datasets, improved datasets refine recommendations and credit scoring, and targeted finance accelerates adoption.

This compounding loop positions MazaoHub to expand in line with food security and climate priorities, with disciplined growth and scalability. The company expects its approach to provide global markets with full farm level traceability for the first time.

Future outlook

With food systems under increasing stress from climate shocks, MazaoHub’s approach combines AI, hardware, and human expertise to make farming more efficient and climate aligned. For investors monitoring climate adaptation, supply chain transparency, and rural digitization, the company has signaled that early conversations ahead of its next financing round in 2027 are welcome.
