GrubMarket, a San Francisco-based food technology platform, has acquired Procurant, a cloud-based AI-powered SaaS system used for managing fresh food procurement, order flows, and regulatory compliance, to strengthen its digital infrastructure for fresh supply chain operations.
The acquisition will allow GrubMarket’s software customers to tap into Procurant’s trading network and procurement tools, expanding the company’s integrated technology ecosystem. Procurant currently connects more than 850 customers across 14 countries and facilitates about $5.5 billion in annual GMV for retailers such as Costco, Walmart, Target, and Albertsons, as well as growers, shippers, and distributors in the US and abroad.
According to a press release announcing the acquisition, Procurant’s customer base includes buyers responsible for more than 90 per cent of all food sold in the United States. GrubMarket’s subsidiary companies will also gain access to Procurant’s platform, a move that could enable more efficient procurement, stronger supplier collaboration, and broader digital trading capabilities.
Joining GrubMarket, one of the largest fresh food technology networks, is an exciting next chapter for us. With GrubMarket’s impressive infrastructure and software and AI offerings, we will expand our reach and bring powerful, new efficiencies to customers across the fresh food supply chain.
According to Procurant, the company has focused on modernizing how the industry buys and manages perishables. Its network, SaaS tools, and central trading platform are designed to support real-time collaboration between retailers and suppliers, replace older legacy systems, and provide clearer insight into supply chain relationships.
Digital Transformation for Fresh Food Supply Chain
Founded in 2018 by CEO Eric Peters, Procurant was developed as a modern, cloud-native alternative to the legacy procurement systems used in the fresh food sector. The platform supports real-time collaboration, operational efficiency, and end-to-end visibility across the perishable supply chain.

Its toolset includes Procurant One for handling procurement and order management, Open Link for coordinating communication between suppliers, retailers and foodservice operators, Inspect for conducting quality control checks, Trace for meeting FSMA 204 traceability requirements, and SureCheck for managing day-to-day food safety tasks.
According to Procurant, SureCheck captures more than 1 million temperature checks per day and logs over 40 million safety and checklist records each month.
By integrating Procurant’s platform with our existing technology stack and AI development capabilities, we will deepen the impact of eCommerce internally and offer new AI-powered procurement solutions to the broader fresh food industry. We are uniquely positioned to accelerate digital transformation across the fresh food supply chain as a team, together.
As per GrubMarket, Procurant has established itself as a trusted, purpose-built platform that transforms how the food industry manages perishables, with a robust trading network that connects buyers and suppliers through modern SaaS software designed specifically for the unique demands of fresh food procurement.
The acquisition can expand GrubMarket’s software portfolio and strengthen its position as the enterprise AI solutions provider for the American food supply chain. The addition of Procurant’s comprehensive solutions will not only serve the GrubMarket software customers, but also create powerful synergy for GrubMarket network.
Efficient Procurement and Traceability
Procurant’s customers include major suppliers and retailers across the U.S. fresh food supply chain, and their systems can be integrated into GrubMarket’s broader software and AI suite. This integration is expected to be particularly relevant for WholesaleWare, GrubMarket’s AI-enabled ERP platform used for financial management, sales support, inventory tracking, lot tracing, grower accounting and routing and logistics operations for wholesalers, distributors and shippers.
Grub Assist AI, the company’s agentic system that supports insights, analysis and automated order processing and reporting, is also expected to gain additional functionality. Orders IO, GrubMarket’s custom-branded eCommerce tool for mobile and online ordering, and GrubPay, its digital payments platform built for food supply chain transactions, are similarly positioned to benefit from Procurant’s capabilities.
The acquisition highlights the growing demand for integrated, cloud-based tools that can manage the complexity of fresh food logistics. As retailers and suppliers move away from legacy procurement systems, platforms that consolidate ordering, compliance, traceability and collaboration have become increasingly central to digital transformation efforts.
By adding Procurant’s procurement and traceability capabilities to its portfolio, GrubMarket can position itself as a more comprehensive infrastructure provider for the fresh food supply chain, at a time when efficiency, compliance readiness and real-time data exchange are becoming competitive requirements across the sector.
