Makueni County received a high level delegation from Balson Polyplast as part of discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in agricultural production, water management, fertigation, and renewable energy solutions, including solar and wind power.

The engagement took place at the county headquarters in Wote, bringing together county officials and representatives of the India based irrigation technology company to explore practical pathways for deploying integrated farm and energy systems within the region. The talks focused on aligning technology deployment with local development priorities, particularly in areas affected by water scarcity and climate variability.

Focus on Climate Responsive Agriculture

Addressing the meeting, Sitansu Sekhar Sarangi, Chief Operating Officer of Balson Polyplast and head of the delegation, highlighted the growing pressure climate change is placing on agricultural systems worldwide. He emphasized the need for adopting green revolution technologies as part of a broader response to these challenges, noting that efficient irrigation and modern water use practices are central to maintaining agricultural output under changing environmental conditions.

Sarangi confirmed the company’s commitment to establishing a 100 acre irrigation technology pilot and demonstration project in Makueni County. The proposed initiative is intended to showcase irrigation applications alongside structured farm management approaches, providing a practical reference point for farmers and county stakeholders.

County Government Backs Irrigation Pilot

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili described the proposed irrigation technology as timely in advancing food security, not only within Makueni but across Kenya.
