Reactivate, American Farmland Trust (AFT), and Edelen Renewables Community Solar have joined forces to launch Farmers Powering Communities (FPC), a partnership that is aimed at expanding community scale solar projects for American farmers and rural communities. The mission of the Farmers Powering Communities is to link those who feed the nation with those driving America’s energy future, ensuring solar energy projects are able to deliver maximum benefits for farmers, ranchers and rural communities.
Through the use of custom data and mapping tools developed by AFT, we’re going to ensure that all projects are aligned with our Smart Solar principles and deliver real, positive benefits for farmers, ranchers, and rural communities.
By leveraging AFT’s smart solar network, the partnership aims to provide affordable, locally sourced clean energy that delivers economic gains for rural and working class Americans.
Farmers Powering Communities Aligning Clean Energy and Agriculture
As the project is led by three communities with distinct areas of expertise in clean energy, Farmers Powering Communities aims to deliver tangible benefits to local communities in America. The partnership intends to protect farmlands and farm families by analysing land productivity, versatility, and resiliency (PVR) while identifying built environment and marginal lands for solar siting. The project also aims to advance agrivoltaics, integrating agriculture and renewable energy for two fold success.
By joining forces with American Farmland Trust and Edelen Renewables Community Solar, we can accelerate the deployment of clean energy projects that help lower energy costs while delivering tangible economic benefits for farmers and rural communities.
Apart from efforts to enhance farm viability, Farming Powering Communities will provide locally generated, and affordable energy solutions that considerably lowers costs for households, nonprofits, and small businesses in rural and working class communities. The program will also strive to create employment for Americans, offering workforce training, generating tax revenues, and driving economic growth in the communities that host these projects.
