Animal management and nutrition company eFeed has launched VetVantage, an artificial intelligence-powered SaaS platform designed to calculate methane emissions from cattle and monetize sustainability efforts through carbon credits. The latest version, MethaneTracker 2.0, offers a solution to one of the most pressing environmental challenges in livestock emissions, the company said in a statement.
Methane is the second-largest contributor to global warming after carbon dioxide, with the livestock sector responsible for 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions. VetVantage supports dairies on their NetZero journey by converting methane emissions into milk production.
The platform, according to the company, allows dairies to input detailed information about their farm location, cattle numbers, and feed to receive precise methane emission estimates. It also provides recommendations for reducing methane emissions through balanced nutrition and specialty additives. Once reductions of 1,000 kg of emissions are achieved, the dairy can apply for carbon credits, which can be sold on eFeed’s marketplace.
VetVantage, according to the company, offers comprehensive Total Mixed Ration (TMR) guidelines, optimizes feed for different methane-producing animals, and integrates with third-party carbon credit agencies to issue carbon credits for farmers.
It generates income for farmers, enhance climate resilience, promotes technology transfer and stimulates rural development by creating jobs. This launch represents a significant step towards sustainable dairy farming in India, addressing both economic and environmental challenges in the sector.
