Organic groceries retailer, Natural Grocers, has announced a partnership with Rodale Institute, a nonprofit focused on advancing regenerative organic agriculture through research, farmer training, and education. The collaboration aims to raise $100,000 to support Rodale’s Farmer Training and Veteran Farmer Training programs, which prepare new and experienced farmers for careers in organic agriculture.

Throughout September, dubbed as the Organic Month for the campaign, customers can contribute by donating at the register or purchasing themed reusable shopping bags, with proceeds benefiting Rodale’s efforts to expand organic farming and train the next generation of regenerative farmers.

The campaign will run across all 169 Natural Grocers locations across the US.

“Rodale Institute has been a pioneer in organic agriculture for over 75 years, demonstrating that healthy soil is the foundation for healthy food, healthy people, and a healthier planet. We are proud to dedicate this year’s Organic Month Fundraiser Campaign to support their vital work.”

In addition to the fundraising efforts, Natural Grocers will dedicate its monthly community education initiatives to organic food and regenerative agriculture. This includes offering discounts, sharing organic recipes, and conducting giveaways to further engage and educate customers on the importance of sustainable farming practices.

The partnership comes at a critical time, as organic sales in the United States have surged to nearly $70 billion annually, yet less than 1% of US cropland is certified organic. Annie Brown, Vice President of Development at Rodale Institute, highlighted the urgent need for more organic farmers.

“There are six times as many farmers over 65 as there are under 35. The time is now to invest in the future of organic agriculture.”

Rodale Institute’s Farmer Training (RIFT) and Veteran Farmer Training (VFT) programs play a crucial role in this effort, offering immersive, hands-on education in regenerative organic farming. These programs are designed to equip the next generation of farmers with the skills needed to lead in organic crop and vegetable production.

Natural Grocers, established in 1955, continues its legacy of promoting organic integrity from farm to table. This partnership with Rodale Institute reinforces its commitment to sustainable agriculture and organic advocacy, aiming to create a healthier future for both people and the planet.
