Syngenta India has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with ICAR’s Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI) in Karnal, Haryana and Choudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) in Hisar, Haryana, to boost sustainable agriculture, soil health, and crop productivity in India. These partnerships aim to extend research initiatives and practical solutions to farmers, promoting eco-friendly farming practices and enhancing agricultural output.

The MoUs were signed by Susheel Kumar, Managing Director and Country Head of Syngenta India, with Director RK Yadav representing CSSRI and Vice Chancellor BR Kamboj representing HAU. Through these collaborations, Syngenta will support research and extension activities in key areas such as capacity building for rural youth in agriculture, safe crop protection practices, and the adoption of advanced technologies, according to a company statement.

The CSSRI partnership will focus on sustainable agricultural practices for improving soil health and resilience in salt-affected areas. Meanwhile, the HAU collaboration will work toward developing diversified, sustainable farming systems to enhance productivity and promote sustainable practices across Haryana.

“These MoUs are vital steps toward strengthening partnerships with agricultural experts and address pressing global challenges such as climate change, soil erosion, and biodiversity loss. Together with our partners, we aim to make Indian agriculture a model of sustainability and prosperity,” said Kumar, an alumnus of CCSHAU.

HAU Vice Chancellor BR Kamboj highlighted that the MoU aligns with the university’s mission to foster diversified farming systems and improve agricultural productivity. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in realizing India’s goals for agricultural development.

Syngenta and HAU will jointly develop skill-building programs for farmers and stakeholders, including the use of ICT-based tools to enhance decision-making with timely and reliable data. Initiatives will be implemented through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Agriculture Diploma Technical Schools, and farmer groups under Syngenta’s IRISE (Inculcating Rural India Skill Enhancement) initiative.

CSSRI’s Director RK Yadav noted that the collaboration would advance research on soil salinity management and crop productivity, offering sustainable agricultural solutions that can transform salt-affected regions.

These partnerships underscore Syngenta’s commitment to fostering a multifaceted approach to agriculture by engaging public institutions, NGOs, and farming communities to create lasting, positive impacts on India’s agricultural landscape.
