Muller UK & Ireland, a dairy products and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, has launched a new initiative, Fast Track, aimed at reducing carbon emissions on supplying farms by leveraging real-time data analysis. The programme, which will run for three years, involves collaboration with Kite Consulting and participation from 40 farms across Great Britain. It forms a core part of Muller’s Sustainability Action Plan, which targets a 30% reduction in on-farm emissions by 2030.
A Data-Driven Approach to Sustainability
Fast Track seeks to provide farmers with advanced tools for real-time monitoring of production efficiency and sustainability indicators. Currently, most farms in Britain rely on annual emissions reports based on data from the previous year. The new programme aims to change this process by enabling farmers to access up-to-date data more frequently, allowing for timely and informed decision-making.
Participants in the programme will utilise automated data integration systems, such as Feedlync, a cloud-based feed management tool. The system will monitor key performance areas, including feed efficiency, fertility, stock numbers, and energy-corrected milk. By focusing on these critical factors, the programme aspires to empower farmers to implement impactful changes that align with their sustainability goals.
Enhancing Efficiency Through Collaboration
The programme’s design prioritises collaboration and innovation. The selected 40 farms will work closely with Kite Consulting to examine key performance indicators and identify strategies for improving their operations. This approach not only facilitates individual farm improvements but also fosters a shared commitment to reducing emissions across the sector.
David Craven, Dairy Manager at Grosvenor Farms, one of the participating farms, emphasized the value of data-driven changes for building resilience and sustainability in farming operations. Muller’s leadership also highlighted the importance of addressing on-farm emissions, identifying this as a significant opportunity to meet the company’s carbon reduction targets.
Meeting Consumer Expectations
Muller’s Chief Executive of Milk & Ingredients stressed the importance of timely, data-supported actions in addressing challenges as they arise. By shifting away from outdated data practices, the Fast Track programme aims to support farmers in implementing immediate and effective solutions. This approach aligns with consumer and customer expectations for proactive efforts to drive environmental improvements.
“The Fast Track programme provides an opportunity to make a real difference and will play a key role in helping us achieve our 30% goal. By supporting farmers to take an integrated, data-driven approach, we can assist them in taking rapid and responsive action which tackles issues head-on and as they arise, meaning we’re no longer relying on historic and sometimes out-of-date data to make decisions.”

Muller’s Vision for Sustainability
The initiative also reflects the growing integration of technology in modern farming. The increased availability of farm data opens new opportunities for science-based decisions to accelerate emission reductions. The Fast Track programme aims to be the pivotal step in the broader journey to minimize the environmental footprint of the dairy industry.
“Fast Track aims to tackle this question by inspecting relevant KPIs (key performance indicators) and facilitating collaboration between a group of 40 innovative and highly efficient farmers. Initiatives such as these are key in our carbon reduction journey, and highlight the focus and determination of dairy farmers across the UK to lower footprints.”
With its emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and real-time data analysis, Fast Track underscores Muller’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future for dairy farming in the UK. As the programme progresses, it is expected to serve as a model for further advancements in the sector’s environmental practices.
