In a move aimed at enhancing support for farmers and advancing sustainable crop nutrition, BW Fusion, an innovator in agricultural crop and soil nutrition, Biodyne, an environmental microbiology company, and Agronomy 365, a tech-enabled crop analytics and management program, have merged to form a single, integrated platform under the BW Fusion brand. The newly formed company will provide growers with more effective biological solutions across every stage of the crop nutrition cycle.

The merger formalizes a previous strategic partnership between the three companies and is expected to accelerate product innovation and strengthen grower support. The transaction was financially backed by Bain Capital Double Impact, the impact investing arm of Bain Capital.

Founded in 1989 by Dr. Fred Farley, Biodyne developed beneficial microbes designed to improve environmental stewardship and aid in bioremediation. Farley’s work showed efficacy in reducing soil contamination and improving plant health across various species. In 2012, Gil Farley and Tim Weir launched a venture to commercialize Biodyne’s products, eventually leading to a partnership with Grant Wells, a third-generation farmer, to establish BW Fusion in 2019. The company’s initial focus was on row crops like corn, soy, and wheat. BW Fusion later formed a partnership with Jason Schley and Agronomy 365, a company offering data-driven tools for crop management.

Future plans of BW Fusion

With the merger, BW Fusion plans to combine Biodyne’s decades of biological research, Agronomy 365’s advanced data and software tools, and BW Fusion’s product development and manufacturing capabilities to better serve farming communities across the U.S. The company is poised to capitalize on growing trends in agriculture, including the increasing demand for sustainable crop nutrition solutions.

BW Fusion’s Chief Agronomist and Product Officer, Jason Schley, emphasized the importance of data in supporting farmers: “As farmers ourselves, we understand the value of providing growers with the right data to make informed decisions. Through our partnership, we can help them improve farming methods and increase long-term profits.” Schley added that BW Fusion’s products are now used on over 1 million acres of farmland across the country.
