Highlight Role of AI in Indian Agriculture national conference

The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Raichur, successfully hosted a two-day national conference on “Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through Extension Services for Sustainable Development in Agriculture and Allied Sectors” on its campus. The event, held in collaboration with the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru; the Indian Society of Extension Education (ISEE) South Zone-Karnataka Chapter, Bengaluru; and ICAR-ATARI Hyderabad and Bengaluru, brought together over 300 delegates from across the country.

The conference, which concluded recently, explored how artificial intelligence technologies can revolutionize agricultural extension services and empower farmers with innovative tools and sustainable practices.

Deputy Director-General of Agriculture Extension, ICAR, New Delhi, U.S. Gautam inaugurated the event, emphasizing the need for integrating artificial intelligence into agriculture to tackle emerging challenges. G. Eshwarappa, President of ISEE Bengaluru, attended as the chief guest.

Focus of the conference

The keynote address was delivered by P. Das, former Deputy Director-General of Agriculture Extension, ICAR, New Delhi, who underscored the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing agricultural productivity and decision-making. The inaugural session was presided over by UAS-Raichur Vice-Chancellor M. Hanumanthappa.

On the final day, Ashok Dalwai, Chairman of the Karnataka Agricultural Price Commission, Bengaluru, delivered the valedictory address, focusing on how artificial intelligence driven innovations can contribute to sustainable agricultural development and improved livelihoods for farmers.

The conference featured thought-provoking presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities among scientists, academics, administrators, research scholars, and students. Participants shared insights on integrating artificial intelligence into extension services to address key challenges in agriculture and allied sectors.

The event underscored the growing significance of technology in shaping the future of agriculture, fostering innovation, and empowering rural communities.
