Dexian India has announced a significant investment in agricultural technology, aiming to enhance farming practices across the country through advanced digital tools. This move underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics to provide Indian farmers with actionable insights, improved market access, and streamlined resource management.

One of the key initiatives by Dexian India, driving this transformation is BIHAN, a platform designed to digitize farming operations at scale. Initially deployed in Bihar, BIHAN has been instrumental in addressing longstanding agricultural challenges by offering real-time data and analytics that assist policymakers and farmers alike.

How BIHAN is Transforming Farming Practices in Bihar

BIHAN has established itself as a crucial tool for Bihar’s agricultural sector by modernizing data collection and resource management across the state. Traditionally, farmers and government officials faced numerous hurdles due to outdated record-keeping systems, limited access to market data, and inefficient subsidy distribution. With BIHAN, these challenges are being addressed through a centralized digital platform that integrates over 70 external datasets and provides insights on government schemes, market trends, and agri-asset mapping.

Currently, BIHAN serves more than 9,100 registered users across 47,943 villages in Bihar. It enables streamlined data collection and visualization, which helps officials monitor agricultural activities more effectively. The platform covers 10 administrative divisions and aggregates data from over 100 local markets to ensure accurate pricing and fair trade practices. Farmers can also benefit from geo-mapped agricultural assets, which aid in better planning and resource allocation.

One of BIHAN’s major contributions has been the transformation of agricultural marketplaces through the AgmarkNet 2.0 initiative. This effort has digitized over 4,000 wholesale markets, reducing dependency on intermediaries and ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce. By enhancing market transparency and accessibility, the platform is helping create a more equitable trading environment for small-scale farmers.

Integration with Government Systems for Better Policy Implementation

To maximize its impact, BIHAN’s database is seamlessly connected with several key government departments. This integration ensures real-time data sharing and facilitates more informed decision-making at both state and national levels. Some of the major government entities working with BIHAN include:

  • AGMARKNET under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
  • Bihar’s Cooperative Department
  • Planning and Development Department, Government of Bihar
  • Bihar Krishi, the state’s agriculture department

By linking BIHAN with these organizations, Dexian India is helping improve governance, ensuring that agricultural policies and programs are backed by accurate, real-time data. This level of connectivity also allows for efficient distribution of government subsidies, ensuring that financial aid reaches the right beneficiaries.

AI-Powered Advisory Services for Farmers

In addition to BIHAN, Dexian India has introduced another key initiative—Agriculture Information Exchange Platform (AIEP). Powered by AI technology from dynAg, AIEP offers smallholder farmers dynamic, personalized guidance through an Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS). Unlike generic advisory services, AIEP is designed to communicate in local languages, including Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magadhi, making it accessible to farmers who may not be comfortable with mainstream digital interfaces.

So far, AIEP has assisted over 1,200 active farmers, with a notable 88% positive feedback rate on AI-generated responses. The platform provides tailored recommendations on crop selection, pest control, irrigation management, and access to government schemes, enabling farmers to make informed decisions that enhance productivity and sustainability.

Dexian India Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture

Dexian India’s investment in digital agriculture aligns with the Indian government’s broader vision for inclusive growth in the sector. By embracing Digital Public Good principles, the company ensures that its solutions remain accessible, scalable, and transparent. These initiatives have already improved the efficiency of government programs, particularly in optimizing subsidy distribution.

For instance, under BIHAN’s Hari Chadar Seed Scheme, the implementation of data analytics has helped identify and eliminate 5% of ineligible applicants, ensuring that subsidies reach only deserving farmers. This kind of targeted approach not only prevents misuse of resources but also ensures that those in genuine need receive timely support.

The Future of Digital Agriculture in India

Commenting on the company’s continued investment in AgriTech, Venkat Lakshminarasimha, Head of Solutions for India and the Middle East at Dexian India, emphasized the importance of building a strong, data-driven agricultural ecosystem. He noted that by integrating next-generation technologies such as AI, cloud computing, and predictive analytics, Dexian India aims to empower farmers with better tools to navigate the complexities of modern agriculture.

With ongoing advancements in digital agriculture, the company is poised to expand its reach beyond Bihar, bringing similar benefits to farmers in other regions. As the adoption of technology increases, the hope is that more farmers will be able to access accurate market information, optimize resource usage, and improve their overall economic stability. By continuing to innovate and collaborate with government agencies, Dexian India is positioning itself as a key contributor to the future of Indian agriculture.
