Swiss-Indonesian agritech company Koltiva has launched an AI-powered traceability pilot in partnership with SUGATA PTE., a coffee and cocoa supplier operating in Aceh, Indonesia. The initiative aims to automate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) processes across agricultural supply chains, including sustainability compliance and reporting, while improving data accuracy, integrity, and transparency in sourcing operations.

The pilot is part of Singapore’s AIAP for Industry programme, a six-month, full-time AI apprenticeship initiative led by AI Singapore, aimed at building local AI capabilities for industry applications. The pilot uses artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and real-time field data to validate records, identify anomalies, and support responsible sourcing, particularly in response to tightening global regulations such as deforestation-free supply-chain requirements and food safety standards.

As part of the pilot, SUGATA PTE. is supporting implementation through full-farm mapping and training programmes aimed at encouraging sustainable farming practices among producers. Koltiva said the pilot is built on its existing digital platform, which currently supports more than 1.19 million producers and 8,500 businesses worldwide. Beyond traceability services, the company’s ecosystem also offers fintech solutions such as loans and insurance through KoltiPay, along with digital market-access tools for agricultural producers via KoltiTrade.

The partnership also focuses on enhancing field operations through real-time insights and predictive analytics for environmental and social performance. With pilot in motion, Koltiva aims to expand AI-based solutions in order to improve transparency and resilience for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses worldwide.

Turning Compliance Into Revenue

Koltiva helps businesses to track agricultural products from ‘seed to table,’ supporting end-to-end traceability and compliance with sustainability standards, including deforestation-free supply-chain requirements, while also aiming to improve smallholder farmer incomes.

The company focuses on agricultural commodities such as cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, and vanilla. Its digital ecosystem integrates AI-driven tools for traceability, payments and financial services, farmer training, and farm management. In addition to its technology stack, the company deploys on-the-ground field agents to verify farming practices and deliver localized support to producers.

Under the traceability pilot, a field network of agronomists collects on-site data that feeds into AI-enabled systems to support the automation of ESG compliance. Rising global regulatory requirements are also driving increased demand for regulatory technology (RegTech) and AI-verified compliance tools, particularly as supply-chain due diligence obligations expand. The European Union’s deforestation regulation alone is expected to affect more than 50,000 businesses operating within the bloc.

Koltiva operates on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, converting compliance and traceability requirements into recurring revenue streams, with multinational companies such as Mars and Cargill among its clients outsourcing traceability-related operations. Analysts note that similar regulatory pressure across agriculture and food supply chains could further accelerate adoption of auditable, AI-powered compliance infrastructure provided by agritech firms.

Scaling Compliance Through Data

The launch of an AI-powered traceability pilot by Koltiva highlights how agritech firms are repositioning compliance as a core business function rather than a cost burden. As regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation and stricter food safety rules expand globally, agribusinesses are increasingly seeking automated, auditable solutions that reduce manual reporting and compliance risk.

Koltiva’s approach, combining AI-driven analytics with on-the-ground data collection, addresses a key gap in many digital traceability system, the reliability of field-level data. The partnership-driven pilot model also reflects a broader industry trend, where agritech platforms collaborate closely with supply-chain actors to validate technology in real-world conditions before scaling.

By embedding ESG automation into a SaaS framework, Koltiva is effectively turning regulatory pressure into recurring revenue opportunities. Over time, similar models could accelerate adoption of AI-enabled compliance tools across agriculture, particularly among global buyers managing complex, multi-origin supply chains.
