National Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Startups Begins Tomorrow in Hyderabad

The National Conference on “Building Sustainable Agricultural Startups in India” will start from tomorrow at the ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM) in Hyderabad. The two-day conference aims to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders from the agriculture and business sectors to discuss and address the challenges faced by agricultural start-ups and explore opportunities for growth and sustainability.

The event will feature experts from academia, government, industry, investors, and development agencies, creating a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and networking. Participants will discuss innovations in agri-tech, value chain optimization, food security, and strategies for scaling agri-business ventures that are both economically viable and environmentally sustainable.

Addressing the Need for Sustainable Agricultural Startups

Agricultural start-ups play an important role in the future of Indian agriculture, helping drive technological innovation, improve productivity, and address pressing challenges like food security, climate change, and rural unemployment. However, building sustainable and scalable agricultural businesses remains a challenge for many entrepreneurs.

The conference aims to address this gap by providing a platform to discuss how to foster long-term growth in the sector. The central theme will be identifying strategies for creating robust, sustainable agri-startups that can help realize the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specific attention will be paid to innovations in agricultural practices, technology integration, and effective business models that promote economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction in rural areas.

The pre-conference session, titled “Encouraging Startups for Agricultural Development,” will provide a platform for students to showcase their entrepreneurial ideas. Students can present business ideas or display posters that align with the conference’s thematic areas.

The top two presentations and two posters will be awarded prizes, providing an additional incentive for young minds to engage with the challenges and opportunities within the agricultural startup ecosystem.

Startup Stalls and Exhibitions

The conference will also feature stalls where start-ups can display their business models, products, and innovations. These stalls will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with a panel of judges evaluating the exhibits. The best displays will be recognized with awards, offering startups a chance to gain visibility and exposure among potential investors, partners, and collaborators.

The Role of ICAR-NAARM and a-IDEA

The ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), which is hosting the event, plays a critical role in building capacity within the agricultural sector. Established in 1976 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), NAARM offers training and development programs for researchers, policymakers, and agricultural extension personnel.

In addition, a-IDEA, the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) of NAARM, has been supporting over 310 start-ups since its inception in 2014. The incubator assists early-stage ventures in agriculture and allied sectors by providing mentorship, networking opportunities, capacity building, and access to funding. By fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, a-IDEA aims to scale up these startups to become competitive players in the agri-business space.
