New Model Farm by BIS, GBPUAT To Test Modern Farming Methods

SADF will serve as experimental sites for testing and implementing of various agricultural practices and new technologies.

Standardized Agricultural Demonstration Farm

India will soon have its first Standardized Agriculture Demonstration Farm (SADF) to test and implement modern farming methods for higher crop yields. The farm will serve as a model for farmers, showcasing the benefits of standardized agricultural practices. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) will will jointly develop and operate the farm.

The farm will serve as experimental site for testing and implementing of various agricultural practices and new technologies in accordance with Indian Standards. It will enable farmers to adopt more efficient and profitable farming practices.

Key objectives of SADF:

  • Testing and implementing various agricultural practices and new technologies to enhance productivity and sustainability
  • Demonstrate the benefits of standardized farming methods to farmers and other stakeholders.
  • Promote the adoption of best practices in agriculture.
  • Contributing to research and development in agricultural sector, fostering innovation and continuous improvement in agrotech.

Dr. M. S. Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of GBPUAT has instructed the officials of GBPUAT to work on the project immediately and provide regular updates to BIS. The collaboration between BIS and an agricultural university to develop SADF’s, is a significant step towards promoting standardized agricultural practices and ensuring the implementation of cutting-edge technologies to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.

The MoU was signed on July 24, 2024, in the presence of Dr Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of GBPUAT and senior officials from the University along with Dr. S. B. Singh, BIS Chair at GBPUAT. Rajeev P, Deputy Director General (North), Saurabh Tiwari, Director & Head of BIS Dehradun and other senior officials of BIS attended the event.
